The New Inventors Reimagined – ABC, Australia

Challenge:

Solution:

Together with The Format People, we developed a multi-layered social media strategy to bring TNI’s inventive spirit to life online, focusing on audience engagement and content interactivity, including:

1. Interactive Content:

  • Designed engaging “Call-to-Action” posts, inviting online followers to submit invention ideas and solutions to real-world problems.
  • Highlighted top submissions through videos and graphics, creating anticipation for the show’s episodes.

2. TikTok-Style Pitches:

  • Encouraged inventors to submit dynamic, short-form video pitches that were shared across social platforms, amplifying the show's reach and showcasing its participants’ creativity.

3. A/B Testing Campaigns:

  • Created social media experiments where audiences could vote on competing inventions, blending entertainment with interactive participation.

Results:

ABC Commercial sought to modernise the legacy of The New Inventors, based on a 50-year-old format by ABC Australia, by engaging a younger, digital-savvy audience while maintaining its reputation as a compelling TV format. The Challenge was to complement the innovative device The Format People created to invigorate the format, which puts the audience at the heart of the invention development process, and foster active participation across all platforms.

The strategy provided a clear roadmap for integrating social media into TNI's format. The client praised the approach for its ability to modernise the brand, attract younger viewers, and increase online engagement. By aligning the show’s innovative spirit with interactive digital content, the strategy positioned The New Inventors Reimagined as a forward-thinking format ready to captivate audiences worldwide.

Testimonial:

"Central to the update of THE NEW INVENTORS is spectacle and engagement. Sandra always seeks to complement rather than complicate a format, to bring fresh layers that enhance the core vision. Sandra immediately saw how to apply the concepts of spectacle and engagement to the digital sphere, bringing viewers into the inventive space through a 360° approach that enabled them to engage both as inventors and as potential end-users in a visually compelling way.”
